Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Principal Renewable Energy Consultant in Houston, TX to own and manage project development and engineering for a large pipeline of utility-scale and industrial solar photovoltaic, wind, energy storage, hydrogen, and power-to-X projects. Manage project tasks, resources, schedules and budgets, responsible for initial assessment, technical and financial feasibility, development, due diligence, design, engineering, preconstruction estimation and procurement support, financial modeling, contract reviews, owner’s engineering, construction monitoring, acceptance and operational monitoring. Lead and support project design and engineering with focus on assessing client objectives, evaluating project constraints, defining basis of design, optimizing design specifications including technology selection, sizing, configuration, energy generation, and system integration, providing engineering reviews during detailed engineering, procurement, construction, testing and operations. Develop and own technical documents and deliverables including proposals, grant applications, scope of work, contract exhibits, drawings, and specifications. Provide technical and financial inputs to project financial modeling.

May telecommute. Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

Skills / Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Energy Engineering or related field and 7 years of experience in the job offered, or renewable systems-related occupation.

Position requires:

  • Leading and supporting utility-scale solar and energy storage development, design, engineering, estimating, procurement, construction and commissioning efforts, with focus on basis of design, technology selection, sizing optimization and system integration, site layouts, electrical drawings, code compliance, controls and communications, performance guarantees, capex and opex estimates, financial models, and contract reviews;
  • Leading and supporting utility-scale solar plant performance modeling, testing and operations;
  • Evaluating site conditions, analyzing project constraints, performing constructability due diligence, determining solar array and electrical equipment locations and conduit runs, identifying methods of interconnection, obtaining or estimating off taker load profiles, developing technical basis of design and engineering scope of work;
  • Leading and supporting preconstruction estimation, determining project suppliers, subcontractors and schedules, developing equipment, materials and labor budget estimates, calculating PPA or lease terms for project finance, preparing bid packages and responding to solar and energy storage RFPs, presenting client-facing proposals, providing technical support through contract negotiations, construction and operations;
  • Optimizing project-specific design deliverables including solar photovoltaic and energy storage equipment selection, system sizing, layout configuration and energy generation modeling using design software;
  • Creating code-compliant single- and three-line diagrams for utility interconnection, developing full structural and electrical drawing sets on AutoCAD for permits and construction, including site plans, stringing line diagrams, equipment specifications, conductor and conduit sizing, panel schedules, and bills of materials, per AHJ, NEC and utility requirements, codes and standards; tracking project life cycle using cloud-based software; and
  • Performing primary and secondary research to evaluate and apply emerging clean energy technologies, presenting at conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals and industry publications.

Position requires travel (Domestic (U.S.) travel required up to 20%).
