LOCATION:

The Partnership team works in a hybrid capacity. This position is expected to be in schools 80% of the time, with occasional visits to the Partnership office in Downtown LA. School sites are based in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts.

The Partnership is a non-profit, in-district partner to LA Unified, not a charter network. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Partnership is seeking an inaugural Director of Instructional Coaching. The Director of Instructional Coaching will work within the Transform Schools Team to codify and implement the Partnership’s vision for instructional coaching across our network of 20 LAUSD schools, and beyond. The Director will be responsible for creating the systems and tools needed to scale teacher growth and support in our network. The Director will develop a professional learning and support system for our school-based Instructional Coaches. The Director will also lead annual differentiated professional planning and regular job embedded formative coaching cycles with Coaches, designed to support their personal growth goals and school role foci. The Director will hold a key teacher leader pathway role, and collaborate with the Curriculum Systems Advising team to connect the external systems advising work and the transformation of our network schools through a coaching lens. This is a full-time, year-round position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Coach Leadership & Development (50%)

  • In collaboration with the leaders of Math, Literacy, and School Leadership Development Teams, develop and implement professional development for Partnership Instructional Coaches that is also inclusive of LAUSD coaches hired at Partnership Schools
  • Build onboarding and training systems for Instructional Coaches, including those who are new to coaching and those who are experienced but new to the Partnership network
  • Create articulated professional development cycles and job embedded systems of formative coaching of Coaches
  • Maintain a community of practice for Coach managers to align on supports and best practices
  • Provide support for hiring instructional coaches as necessary, including the creation of job descriptions and candidate profiles, interviewing, and onboarding

Implementation of Coaching Culture (15%)

  • Implement and evolve the Partnership Vision for Instructional Coaching through the development of systems, tools, and evaluations for coaches and Instructional Leadership Teams implementing systematic instructional coaching
  • Codify and disseminate key systems and practices for school level instructional coaching at the network level, with the intention of driving school and instructional leadership learning and development
  • Set instructional coaching goals with schools, including setting a vision for coaching with conditions for success within school plans (CTA), and progress monitor throughout the year
  • Create and maintain resources on best practices and tools for instructional coaching, including high quality video exemplars of effective coaching cycles, for educators to access on the Partnership Educator Hub
  • Provide regular support to the implementation of instructional coaching throughout the year, enabling conditions, communication, and impact of coaching at a school and network level

Teacher Leader Pathway: Peer Coach Cohort Development (15%)

  • Implement the Partnership’s vision for Instructional Coaching for 40 school based Peer Coaches in the teacher leader pathway, inclusive of schools’ ILT, instructional coaches, coordinators, and interventionists 
  • Develop content and provides facilitation on coaching for four Peer Coach Seminars annually
  • Ensure Individual Game Plans (IGPs) are built in alignment with the school’s strategic plan (Call to Action, or CTA), and supports teacher leaders as they monitor their role in the CTA
  • Build a system for schools to coach their Peer Coaches with an eye toward the Partnership vision for Instructional Coaching

Systems Advising & Grant Support (20%)

  • Collaborate with the Partnership Curriculum Systems Advising Team to provide external capacity building support and scaling coaching systems and best practices
  • Manage and monitor multi-year grants providing funding for instructional coaching
  • Participate in future philanthropic giving development and periodic donor stewardship activities
  • Design and lead coaching presentations and writing projects to influence the local and national education landscape

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 7 years of successful full-time credentialed teaching experience in similar communities as the Partnership, with historical impact data
  • At least 2 years of successful leadership experience within the school context (department or grade level lead, coach, coordinator, etc.), with historical impact data
  • Experience as a school or district administrator a plus, but not required
  • A master’s degree or other advanced degree relevant to the role is preferred
  • Formal instructional coaching program experience and/or certifications
  • Extensive experience in observing and giving feedback on instruction
  • Experience leading or participating in the successful transformation of school(s)
  • Deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and High Quality Instructional Materials, effective pedagogy, as well as state and site level comprehensive assessment systems
  • Knowledge of Culturally and Historically Relevant Education (CHRE), as well as identity-affirming curriculum and pedagogy
  • Experience leading and managing multiple complex projects in a fast paced and innovative setting while remaining positive and solutions-oriented
  • Understanding and knowledge of adult learning principles, with experience designing and implementing comprehensive and innovative professional development programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with administrative, instructional, support, and Partnership staff
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; experience writing for formal publications and presentations is preferred
  • Strong technology background a plus; experience with and strong understanding of platforms used to analyze school and student data, including technology tools used within coaching and professional learning
  • The ability to travel between school sites
  • Spanish language fluency (spoken and written), preferred
  • Working understanding of K-12 public education sector, preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this position is $109,375-$117,188. The Partnership also offers a robust benefits package including employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents; a 403(b) retirement program with employee match and vesting; parental and sabbatical leaves; a professional development allowance; and generous paid time off.
